June 5, 2015 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We have had a busy first week of June!  It’s hard to believe there are only 12 days left!  We have spent the week finishing our Very Hungry Kindergartener books, writing in our journals, starting our large 3D map of Boston, and starting new narratives on special things that have happened to us!  The students have been learning lots and doing really well.  We also enjoyed a Calypso Band Enrichment Concert today sponsored by the PTO.  The students enjoyed hearing the unique sounds of the steel drums.

A couple of important things were sent home in your child’s blue folder today.  I saved their self portraits from the beginning of the year and had them draw new self portraits more recently.  I think a lot of you will be amazed at your child’s progress!  Also in your child’s folder is their first published book!  There is a separate post about what we did to get the books published.  I hope you enjoy listening to your child read his/her book.  A lot of hard work went into it.  There is a page in the back where you can record your comments.  The book does not need to be returned to school.

We are looking forward to our trip to Boston on Monday, June 15th to walk around the State House, through Louisburg Square, into the Boston Commons, and to the Swan Boats.  More information will go home the Friday before the trip but students will need a disposable bagged lunch, bottled water, and sneakers.  Hopefully it will be a beautiful day!

We will walk to Simonds Park on Monday, June 22nd.  We will be leaving the school around 9:00am.  Everyone is welcome to meet us at the park.  Remember that the children will be dismissed from the park (the buses will pick them up there), and those in the After School Program will be dropped off at the school by bus #2.  More information about the trip will go home the week before we go.  This field trip doesn’t cost anything!  Please be sure to return the permission slip for pizza as soon as possible.  For those of you who marked that you do not want your child to eat the pizza, please be sure to send him/her with a completely disposable bagged lunch that day.

We will have our Cleaning Day on Wednesday, June 17th.  If you are scheduled to help out, we would love to have you from 9:00-9:45am.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Melanie Duncan

PS...This Wednesday will be our final day to go to the library.  Please be sure to locate your child’s library book and return it by Wednesday, if you haven’t returned it already.  Also, if you have any class books, please be sure to return them as soon as possible too.  Thanks!
