June 12, 2015 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We had a busy week in Room 115!  We finished up a lot of our work center projects and finished our map of the Boston Commons area that we will be visiting next week.  We also started a field trip book and have been busy writing in our journals and finishing our personal narratives.  It’s hard to believe everything is winding down!  I will be sending home the students’ writing portfolios next week.  I have collected some of their writing samples from the whole year.  Please take some time to look through it with your child.  I think you will be amazed at how far their writing has come!

We wrote a lot of thank you notes this week.  We made a list of all the people who have helped us this year in Kindergarten and were amazed at how many people there were!  There is an enormous team that works together to help make each student successful!  You are all apart of that team and we can’t thank you enough.  Please look in your child’s folder for a thank you note!  We also talked a lot about community helpers.  I enjoyed hearing the students talk about what their own parents do to help other people!

We are looking forward to our field trip on Monday to walk around the State House and ride on the Swan Boats.  Hopefully we get a beautiful day!  Sneakers are a MUST and students will also need a bagged lunch and disposable water bottle.  More details went home in your child’s folder today.  Chaperones will be riding on the bus with us and should plan to arrive around 8:30am.

Field Day is on Tuesday, June 16th.  Students should also wear sneakers that day.  If it rains, Field Day will be on Wednesday, the 17th and we will be doing our Cleaning Day on Tuesday, the 16th.

We will be walking to Simonds Park on Monday, June 22nd.  More details will be sent home next week.  Sneakers are a MUST!  Pizza will be provided for all the students unless you have specified that your child will be bringing his/her own lunch.  Thank you everyone for sending back the permission slips!

The last day of school is Tuesday, June 23rd.  It is a half day.  If you are picking up your child, you should walk across the hard top area to the cafeteria doors to meet them.  I will send home a dismissal form next week to make sure I know your dismissal plans for your child.  Please be sure to fill it out completely and send it back as soon as possible.

I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Melanie Duncan
