We have been busy finishing up some of our projects for our museum that will be on Wednesday, April 2nd. We hope you are able to come to it! We finished our mosaic flower pots and even did our impressions of some famous impressionist paintings, including Monet’s “Waterlilies” and VanGogh’s “Sunflower’s” and “Starry Night.” We also learned about pointillism and made our own paintings out of dots! Next we will be learning about Egyptian art. The students will be making pyramids and writing their names in Egyptian hieroglyphs!
We finished our math unit on decomposing teen numbers and have started a new topic on measurement. The students have enjoyed comparing objects and have done a great job using a lot of our new math words. I would encourage you to keep practicing the addition and subtraction fluency facts with your child.
We have been doing a lot of work with our sight words in school but I would also encourage you to continue practicing these words with your child at home. The more he/she sees them and reads them in different contexts, the more familiar the words will become.
As of right now, I don’t have any parent chaperones for our trip to the circus on Wednesday, April 15th. If you are interested in going to the circus with us, please let me know. I can bring two parents with me and will draw names from a cup if I need to. The cost will be $20 for chaperones to cover the cost of the ticket.
I enjoyed meeting with most of you for conferences last week. If you were unable to make it to your conference, please call or email me to reschedule. I would love to be able to talk with everyone by the end of this week, if possible.
I will be sending a Scholastic book order home tomorrow in your child’s blue folder. These will be due on Wednesday, April 1st. You may order online or send the order form back to me with your payment (checks only...no cash).
Our class was very sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Marsh on Friday, which was her last day here in Room 115. She has accepted a full time teaching position at the preschool. It will be a wonderful opportunity for her, although she will be missed very much here at Francis Wyman. We are thankful to have Mrs. Chris MacKay with us as the new classroom assistant. Mrs. MacKay helped cover for part of my maternity leave last spring so is familiar with our classroom routines and the curriculum during this part of the year. She is a retired school teacher who is looking forward to getting to know the children more.
Have a great rest of the week!
Melanie Duncan
PS…. We still need a few more shoe boxes for a circus project that will be coming up in a couple of more weeks. If you have any laying around your home, we would be happy to take them! Thanks!
