January 16, 2015 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We have begun our unit on sea life in preparation for our trip to the New England Aquarium on Tuesday, January 27th.  Please don’t forget to send in the $13 to cover the cost of the trip.  Checks should be made payable to Francis Wyman Kindergarten.  We have three chaperones joining us for the trip.  Thanks in advance to Mrs. Agrawal, Mr. Fragoso, and Mrs. Bilzc for your willingness to come!

The children made their own aquarium scenes and sea turtles, which look amazing hanging on our back wall. They are also working on an innovation of Eric Carle's, A House for Hermit Crab.  We have been learning more about fascinating sea turtles and octopuses too!

The students continue to write in their journals and practice writing the lowercase letters. We will be learning the uppercase letters very soon.  Although the children are more familiar and comfortable with these, we are spending quite a bit of time making sure they are forming the letters correctly. We encourage the children to use more lowercase letters in their names.  We just started learning how to “tap out” words to read.  The students are doing very well with this!

We will be having our Fish Day on Friday, January 23rd.  Students will travel around to different Kindergarten classrooms to complete various fish projects.  If you are interested in volunteering, please let me know.  We are in need of parent helpers from 8:30-9:50am that day.

Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering in the classroom in February.  I will be putting my volunteer calendar together next week.  The daily volunteer time is from 9:15-9:50am.

The School Used Book Store is Wednesday, January 21.  Students may bring either a quarter or a book to trade.  It is optional.

Hope you have a great long weekend!  No school on Monday!
